Dress Code: Fall/Winter 2025

Dress Code is a couture-inspired series of basketball nets that reframe the history of style in the NBA as a story of discipline, rebellion, and spectacle. Each net marks a shift in how players navigated appearance and identity under the league’s evolving rules, tracing a lineage from Darryl Dawkins’ gold chains to Russell Westbrook’s front-row presence at Paris Fashion Week.

The arc begins with Dawkins, whose jewelry on the court prompted the NBA to ban chains in 1980, revealing the tension between safety and self-expression. It continues through Michael Jordan, who embodied polish and restraint, his era defined by suits and conformity. With Allen Iverson, the language changed—his unapologetic embrace of chains, tattoos, and street culture unsettled the league and triggered its most sweeping dress code. The series culminates with Westbrook, who transforms the very boundaries of that code into a stage for flamboyance, wearing pearls and couture while sitting beside Anna Wintour at fashion shows.

Across four sculptural nets, Dress Code positions basketball as more than a game: it is a runway of power, identity, and performance, where the rules of dress have always been as contested—and as creative—as the sport itself.
